Skin care trends autumn 2021: maskne

As summer came to an end in 2021, Global Cosmetic Industry pointed out that “maskne” would remain a common skin concern in the autumn and winter season.

What is maskne?

Maskne, or mask acne, is a growing concern for consumers and formulators alike. Many people, especially health care workers, wear face masks for long hours. The warm, humid environment under the mask and the friction of the fabric can cause blemishes and sensitivity.

Why azelaic acid fits

For products that address maskne, azelaic acid offers several benefits:

  • helps calm the look of redness
  • normalises keratinisation and helps keep pores clear
  • gently supports cell turnover
  • is gentler than many common actives, with less dryness and peeling

Azelaic acid can be used in products for blemish-prone skin, redness-prone skin, dark spots and uneven skin tone, dull skin and scalp care.

For cosmetic and dermatological companies we offer a sample kit with sample products, our azelaic acid guides and a sample of the raw material. Contact us at service@azeco-cosmeceuticals.com.
